The DirecTV Now streaming service from ATT will be available for sign up starting tomorrow. They will be joining Google Unplugged, Hulu, and many others in providing another alternative to the more than 20 million U.S. households that have either cut the cord or are contemplating it. DirecTV Now tiered plans will start at $35 a month and will support a wide variety of hardware platforms. DirectTV Now also plans to offer a Taylor Swift channel alongside major and affiliate lineups.
In a limited time introductory offer, the tiered subscription will start at $35 per month and go up to $70 per month for 120+ channels. Also, with any tier you can add HBO or Cinemax for an extra $5 each per month.
Here is a breakdown of each tier and a sample of the channel lineup:
- Live a Little – $35 / month (60+ channels)
- Just Right – $50 / month (80+ channels)
- Go Big – $60 / month (100+ channels)
- Gotta Have it – $70 / month (120+ channels)
You can also get a free trial if you purchase an Amazon Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote, LeEco smartphones and TVs, and select Lenovo laptops.
At launch, the DirecTV Now will be available on the following platforms:
- Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick
- Android mobile devices and tablets
- iPhone, iPad and Apple TV
- Chromecast (Android at launch; iOS in 2017)
- Google Cast-enabled LeEco ecotvs and VIZIO SmartCast Displays
- Internet Explorer, Chrome and Safari web browsers
Plans for 2017 include adding support for Roku, Amazon Fire tablets, and Smart TVs.
John Stankey, CEO of AT&T Entertainment Group, said that DirecTV Now will be aimed at “those who value premium content but also want more TV freedom suited for their lifestyle” and “This is TV your way.”
The only announcement so far for original content is a Taylor Swift Now channel that has a yet to be released launch date.
“Taylor Swift NOW is a video experience created exclusively by AT&T and Taylor that will showcase unique videos, concert performances, behind-the-scenes footage and more” The channel will launch with videos from the “Taylor Swift archives” and will be updated regularly with new videos.
Fans will get a sneak peek of the channel in the coming weeks. “Taylor Swift NOW is one of many exciting things we have in store for Taylor’s fans and our customers as part of our exclusive multi-year deal” said Stankey “We can’t wait to get Taylor Swift NOW into the hands of fans to stream everywhere.”
